The Prevent Duty

The Prevent duty requires specified authorities such as education to help prevent the risk of people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It sits alongside long-established safeguarding duties on professionals to protect people from a range of other harms, such as substance abuse, involvement in gangs, and physical and sexual exploitation. Radicalisation is a safeguarding issue and refers to the process by which a person comes to support terrorism and other forms of extremism leading to terrorism. Radicalisation is a process and the process is different for everyone - it can take place over an extended period or within a very short time frame.
