The Prevent Duty

The Prevent duty requires specified authorities such as education to help prevent the risk of people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It sits alongside long-established safeguarding duties on professionals to protect people from a range of other harms, such as substance abuse, involvement in gangs, and physical and sexual exploitation. The duty helps to ensure that people who are susceptible to radicalisation are supported as they would be under safeguarding processes. (Prevent Duty Guidance for England and Wales)

Radicalisation is a safeguarding issue and refers to the process by which a person comes to support terrorism and other forms of extremism leading to terrorism. Radicalisation is a process and the process is different for everyone - it can take place over an extended period or within a very short time frame.

If you are concerned that someone you know maybe at risk of radicalisation, please see the information below for next steps.
