Reading

Your child will have their own school diary and they can record their daily reading in this. In Key Stage 2, we use the Accelerated Reader scheme (AR). Children will have access to books from our school library and will also have access to a wide range of texts on the online reading platform MyOn which is part of the AR scheme. The web address for this website will be given in your child's school diary and a link is available to access on the class web page. Please ensure that your child's school diary is in school every day as this is also a way for teachers and parents to communicate.

Spellings

In Oak Class, weekly spelling lists go home on Mondays and we complete our mini spelling tests on Fridays. If you lose your list of spellings or are absent from school, don't worry, there is a section on our class web page with the weekly spellings so you can check and keep up to date. Children also have access to Spelling Shed so they can practise a wide range of  spellings using the online games and tasks.

Homework

Children have daily reading and weekly spellings to learn in addition to their weekly arithmetic and weekly spelling books. We use Schofield and Sims arithmetic books and children will complete sections A and C in school as part of our daily arithmetic sessions, and will complete section B as homework. To consolidate spellings and to support children with their knowledge of using and applying spelling rules and patterns, children also have a Schofield and Sims spelling work book in which they complete one page each week as homework. Schofield and Sims books go home on Tuesdays and must come back to school on Fridays.
