Chief Medical Officer's recommendation is that children take part in at least 60 mins of moderate to vigorous daily physical activity. During the national lockdowns, sports activities ceased, leisure venues closed and schools were only open to vulnerable children and those of key workers. Research has proven that this has had a huge impact on the amount of daily physical activity children have been able to take part in.
As part of our Covid-19 response to raise children's fitness levels and boost their mental and physical health and well-being, we decided to take part in the West and North East Leeds Skipping Project in collaboration with the Skipping School and purchased skipping ropes for every child in Reception all the way through to Year 6. Skipping is a great way to improve co-ordination, strengthen bones, boost mental health, improve and raise heart rates (cardio vascular health), increase stamina and flexibility as well as being good fun.
